Proverbs summary

Proverbs is wisdom literature, a collection of proverbs and teaching from several different authors including King Solomon (1:1; 10:1; 25:1), Agur son of Jakeh (Chapter 30) and King Lemuel (31:1-9). The accuracy of the books name to its content makes it important to understand what a proverb is. A proverb is a short pithy saying in general use, stating a general truth or piece of advice; this is exactly what we find in proverbs even though the structure is broken into three main parts. The purpose of the book is summed up in chapter 1 : 3, “ Their purpose is to teach people to live disciplined and successful lives, to help them to do what is right, just and fair.” They focus more on human experiences than divine revelation.  The proverbs are quite timeless and although they are not necessarily truths in all circumstances they are definitely principles of life applicable to people of all ages and in all the ages and different circumstances. Other than all the truths about gaining human wisdom and understanding God’s wisdom proverbs also shows God’s justice. The whole of this book carries information which if applied will defiantly change one’s life.
